The Berlin/Brandenburg Health Academy and the Berlin Fire Department are now working together to train paramedics for the capital's fire department. In Berlin, all employees in the emergency service, regardless of their later main activity, initially go through the same demanding basic training. As part of this basic training, the new colleagues in the Berlin Fire Department also complete training to become paramedics. This training represents the first important step in the medical training of colleagues and enables them to provide expert assistance during emergency operations and to assist the emergency paramedics and emergency doctors.
Furthermore, a legal regulation came into force in Berlin in spring 2023, which stipulates that paramedics can also be deployed as medically responsible emergency personnel in times of particularly high call-out volumes. This naturally requires particularly thorough training, which will now be implemented by the Berlin/Brandenburg Academy of Health for the class of 2023, 192 career starters.
We are aware of the great responsibility we have for our young colleagues and also of the impact on people in need in Berlin and are pleased that the Berlin Fire Service has placed its trust in us by entrusting us with this task and that we can thus become part of the solution to the shortage of personnel in Berlin's emergency rescue services.
