Supplementary training course to become a physiotherapist

For applicants who have already completed vocational training as a masseur/masseuse and medical bath attendant, there is a special regulation according to § 12 (1) of the MPhG that requires them to complete the supplementary training course to become a physiotherapist after at least 5 years of work as a masseur/masseuse and medical bath attendant.

Continuing education for practical instructors

This supplementary course is aimed at interested parties with completed vocational training as a masseur/masseuse and medical bath attendant and at least 5 years of experience in this profession (according to §12 (1) MPhG.

Registration documents

  • Proof of completed training as a masseur and medical bath attendant,
  • Proof of admission to the shortened training according to § 12 (1) MPhG (admission for 12 months) by the State Office for Health and Social Affairs Berlin,
  • Proof of health suitability and sufficient vaccination protection.

The supplementary course to become a physiotherapist comprises 750 UE of theoretical and practical course content on the following main areas:

  • Physiotherapeutic findings and examination techniques,
  • Physiotherapy treatment techniques,
  • Methodical application in the medical fields of pathology,
  • Anatomical and physiological knowledge from training as a masseur/medical bath attendant is required

and 400 UE of practical training in the specialist areas.

  • It is a state-recognized supplementary course that concludes with a state examination in accordance with the Law on Professions in Physiotherapy (MPhG) in its currently valid version.
  • Admission to the state examination is granted if the supplementary course has been attended regularly and successfully. The final examination is divided into a written, practical and oral part. Passing the state examination is a prerequisite for being granted a professional license to work as a “state-recognized physiotherapist”.

The supplementary course is offered part-time over a period of 20 months. The face-to-face events take place monthly on a weekend from Thursday to Sunday.

Course fee

This supplementary course is financed through a monthly training fee of €316.00 or funding is possible through a training voucher.
