Practical training for practice instructors in the healthcare sector

The Academy of Health offers a specialized institute for simulation for further training as a practical instructor. In a safe environment, you will practice practical instruction and learning situations with your trainees. The focus is on de-escalating interventions, confidence in action and a professional attitude. In addition to promoting respectful conversation and preventive conflict management, you will learn to use clear, structured communication in emotionally challenging situations. The Crew Resource Management (CRM) format improves your interprofessional communication and helps you stay capable of acting under pressure. Another important component is the targeted assessment and support of the learners. They develop the ability to realistically assess their progress and to provide constructive feedback that promotes further development. By promoting resilience, we strengthen your psychological stability so that you can act confidently and healthily in the long term as a practical instructor in everyday working life.

Requirements

Permission to use the professional title of (paediatric) nurse, nurse, nurse, geriatric nurse, surgical assistant, anaesthesia technician, emergency paramedic, midwife and maternity nurse
At least 1 year of professional experience

Theoretical part (300 hours incl. exam)

Subject Module 1: Applying the basics of practical instructions
Subject Module 2: Acting professionally in the field of practice instruction
Subject Module 3: Promoting personal development

Practical part (at least 24 hours of observation as part of practical instructions)

At least two instructions must be carried out by the participants and supervised by a trained practical instructor.

Goals of further training

Nowadays, vocational education and training is not a one-off event during the training period, but a continuous process of learning and further qualification. In every specialty, increasingly complex tasks with demanding nursing challenges are coming to the fore.

Our continuing education courses enable participants to provide patient care on the basis of the current, generally accepted state of knowledge in professional science, medicine and other relevant disciplines.

They equip healthcare professionals to respond to complex professional challenges with tailor-made approaches by developing and deepening their professional, personal, social and methodological skills.

Concept

The further training takes place as a part-time course. It lasts at least two to a maximum of five years and is carried out on the basis of the currently valid DKG recommendation.

The theoretical training takes place in basic and specialist modules as block teaching units as well as in the form of individual, self-directed and digitally supported learning.

The practical part of the training is completed in the respective company or in a partner clinic.

Qualified practical instructors will accompany you and carry out planned instructions.

Degree / Certification

Since 01.09.2025, the Academy of Health has been recognized by the German Hospital Association as a continuing education center for continuing education in practical instruction
After successful oral and practical examination, you will receive the following qualification:
- Practice instructor (DKG)
Certificate from the DKG and the Academy of Health eV
